💡 What to look for in a pink Mahjong set
- Tile count: Look for 166 tiles (standard). Some sets have 160–168 — both are fine as long as Jokers and Blanks are included.
- Tile material: Melamine is durable and affordable. Acrylic is premium — heavier, glossier, and more scratch-resistant.
- Racks and pushers: Should be included. All-in-one rack/pusher combos are the most convenient.
- NMJL card: NOT included in any set — you must purchase the 2026 card separately.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best pink Mahjong set for beginners?
The TIASUSAN American Mahjong Set is the best pink Mahjong set for beginners. It comes in under $100, includes a beginner's manual, and has everything you need to start playing — 166 tiles, racks, dice, chips, and a wind indicator. The clear engraved numerals make it easy to learn the game quickly.
Do pink Mahjong sets play the same as regular sets?
Yes, absolutely. Pink Mahjong sets are standard American Mahjong sets — the pink color is just aesthetic. They include the same 166 (or 160–168) tiles, the same suits and jokers, and work with the same NMJL card you use every year. The game play is identical.
How many tiles should an American Mahjong set have?
A standard American Mahjong set should have 166 tiles: 36 Dots, 36 Bams, 36 Cracks, 16 Winds, 12 Dragons, 16 Flowers, 10 Jokers, and 4 Blank Spares. Some sets come with 160 or 168 tiles — small variations are fine, but make sure Jokers and Blanks are included.
Do any of these pink sets come with the NMJL card?
No — the NMJL (National Mah Jongg League) card is sold separately each year and is not included with any Mahjong set. You can order the current 2026 NMJL card directly from the National Mah Jongg League website or find it on Amazon. It is required for American Mahjong play.
What is the difference between melamine and acrylic Mahjong tiles?
Melamine tiles are the most common — they are durable, affordable, and have a matte finish. Acrylic tiles are premium: they have a translucent or glossy finish, feel heavier in the hand, and are generally more scratch-resistant. Acrylic sets like the LJXWRF and Amber sets are a step up in quality and price.
